Transitional Funding

Transitional funding has been designed to help make your transition to the corps and/or the region easier financially. All incoming corps members are encouraged to apply for transitional funding. This funding includes need-based grants and no-interest loans and is intended to offset the costs you may incur during the transition to the Charlotte corps. Grants and loans will be dispersed at the beginning of the summer institute and may be used to reimburse travel costs to the summer institute and regional inductions. You can also use your transitional funding award to pay for personal and moving expenses (i.e. deposits on apartments) and necessary coursework, testing, and district processing fees.

If you haven't applied for transitional grants and loans already, it may not be too late! Please visit your Applicant Center for more details and instructions for applying. The TGL 101 guide includes deadlines to apply and more info. Still have questions? Click on the "Help" tool in your Applicant Center.

Please note: Teach For America covers most major expenses during the summer institute and regional induction, including room and board. Room and board will NOT be provided after Institute.

AmeriCorps

Teach For America is an AmeriCorps program, which means TFA corps members can serve as an AmeriCorps member while fulfilling their two-year commitment (contingent upon TFA being awarded crucial AmeriCorps funds each year). You can learn more about AmeriCorps and TFA here. Specific instructions on how to enroll will be available in the spring.

Loan Forgiveness

Many teachers are eligible for loan forgiveness/cancellation after a certain amount of years of service. Please visit the site listed below to read more information about this. You should also contact your loan organization directly to inquire about possible loan forgiveness details. See this document for details about different forgiveness/cancellation programs.
